About Us

no one should have to struggle alone.

About Us

no one should have to struggle alone.

Open Doors Open Minds is a men’s mental health charity built on one simple belief: no one should have to struggle alone.

We exist to open doors to support, connection and understanding, and to open minds to the reality that asking for help is a strength, not a weakness.

The charity was founded by two men who have walked the tough road of mental health challenges themselves. They know what it feels like to be overwhelmed, isolated or unsure where to turn.

Their experience shapes everything we do, from the way we talk about men’s mental health to the way we welcome people into our community.

Our aim is to make sure no man and no one is left behind.

We create spaces where men can talk openly, find support without judgement, and feel part of something bigger than their struggles.

Whether it’s through peer support, community events or practical resources, we’re here to help men feel seen, heard and supported.

Open Doors Open Minds is more than a charity. It’s a reminder that change starts with care, clarity and dignity and the courage to reach out.

Meet The Team

Scott Allan

Founder of Open Doors Open Minds CIC

My mental health hit an all-time low after a traumatic incident with my daughter. It brought up so many suppressed memories, and before I knew it, I was diagnosed with complex PTSD. My life broker down. My marriage ended and I found myself in a system that didn’t seem to trust me as a man or a father.

Rebuilding myself wasn’t easy, but it taught me a lot. Now, I’m using my journey to help other men get the support they need, when they need it. Because no one should have to struggle alone.

Gareth Evans Perry

CEO of Open Doors Open Minds CIC

I had suffered with my mental health for many years, like many men, unknowingly suppressing it. Things came to a head when my wife was unwell, and lock down killed my business.  I reached rock bottom and was looking at ways to end my life in order for my family be able to claim my life insurance.

Unfortunately, whilst trying to get help there was nothing available and the NHS was just over run and struggling.

Now, in a better place in my journey, I dedicate my life to assisting those who need the help I couldn’t find

Bruce

The ODOM Therapy Dog In Training

Possibly the most lovable and chill member of the ODOM team is Bruce. He’s still a puppy, but he is receiving valuable training. He brings calm, comfort and connection everywhere he goes, reminding us that support doesn’t always come through words. He’s learning how to show up for people in the moments that matter.  He has his own fundraising page to suhis training and care.
